A 35-year-old driver was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist on the San Diego (405) Freeway in Carson on Sunday morning, authorities said.

The crash on the southbound 405 Freeway at Wilmington Avenue was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 2:25 a.m., said CHP Officer Jennifer Cassidy.

The motorist standing outside his disabled black 2003 BMW when an unknown suspect struck him and the left side of his BMW, the CHP said.

The hapless motorist flew into traffic lanes and struck by several other vehicles. The motorist was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:36 a.m. by arriving Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.

“The suspect vehicle is likely to have major damage to the right side,” according to a CHP report.
