A 26-year-old Rowland Heights man was sentenced Monday to seven years in prison for an attack in Old Town Pasadena that claimed the life of a Marine reservist.

Fernando Sabino Ramirez was convicted Nov. 3 of involuntary manslaughter and assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury. Jurors also found true an allegation that he personally inflicted the brain injury that left 25- year-old Joshua Martinez comatose.

Martinez, a Marine reservist at Camp Pendleton, died at a hospital a day after being attacked outside a restaurant on Aug. 5, 2013. Video showed Martinez falling during the assault and hitting his head on the street.

Four other defendants pleaded no contest to assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury.

Jonas Cardenas Ramos, 26, of San Gabriel, and Angel Christopher Moroyoqui, 22, of El Monte, were sentenced Nov. 5 to 180 days of county jail, three years probation and 30 days of Caltrans service.

Jonathan Pierre Aquino, 26, of El Monte, and Timothy Scott Coley, 24, of West Covina, were sentenced July 16 to 60 days of community service and three years probation.
