A 44-year-old man accused of shooting his younger brother in their mother’s backyard in Compton pleaded not guilty Thursday to a murder charge.
Dion Landry of Carson is charged in the Nov. 16 killing of his 25-year-old brother, Davion Branch.
Prosecutors allege that Landry got into an argument with his brother at their mother’s home, left the house, returned with a gun and confronted Branch in the backyard.
Landry was arrested soon afterward by deputies, who recovered a handgun at the scene, according to Deputy Kevin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Landry could face a possible maximum life prison sentence if convicted, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
