A 33-year-old Alhambra man was in custody Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bail on suspicion of growing marijuana in a house in Pomona, police said.
Longsheng Ou was arrested after he was seen around 8:30 p.m. Monday leaving a residence, located on Tanglewood Drive in the Phillips Ranch neighborhood, from which wafted a strong smell of marijuana, said Pomona police Sgt. Marcus Perez. Officers went in and found 860 plants weighing more than 280 pounds, he said.
Perez said officers were initially called to the residence because of the strong odor of marijuana it emitted. Officers found “sophisticated electrical and lighting equipment used in the cultivation process,” Perez said.
“Upon further investigation, it was revealed that suspect Ou was utilizing the entire residence to cultivate marijuana,” Perez said.
Ou was booked into jail and was scheduled to make his initial court appearance Wednesday in Pomona, according to the sheriff’s department.
