A two-story building in Long Beach was damaged Friday when a railing on an upper floor walkway on the outside of the structure collapsed, possibly as a result of the overnight rainstorm, authorities said.

Firefighters were sent to the 3100 block of Los Coyotes Diagonal about 7:30 a.m., said Jake Heflin of the Long Beach Fire Department. No injuries were reported.

The building has four apartments on the upper floor and three or four businesses on the first floor, Heflin said.

Inspectors red-tagged the building as unsafe for occupancy Heflin said.

The wood-frame stucco facade and railing for the walkway “was ripped away from the building,” and authorities believe this was due at least in part to the rainstorm,  Heflin said.
