A human skull was found Sunday in the concrete-lined Los Angeles River bed in Bell.

The discovery was made about 9:30 a.m. in the river, just upriver of the Slauson Avenue bridge and east of District Boulevard, said Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

“East Los Angeles deputies were contacted after a man and a woman discovered what appeared to be a human skull as they walked in the Los Angeles River bed,” Panis said.

Sheriff’s Homicide detectives have confirmed that the remains are of a human skull but it was unknown how long the skull has been at the location, she said. The cause of death and identity of the victim have yet to be determined.

Sheriff’s homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the remains to call them at (323) 890-5500.
