A jury awarded $19 million to a woman struck from behind on a freeway by another driver in West Covina three years ago.

The Pasadena Superior Court jury found in favor of 25-year-old Michelle Marin of Rialto on Tuesday in her lawsuit against Maryann Ganuelas, according to Marin’s attorney, Mark Algorri.

The accident occurred after Marin’s vehicle stalled due to an apparent electrical problem while she was driving in the right lane of the San Bernardino (10) Freeway during daylight hours on Nov. 27, 2011, according to Algorri.

Ganuelas of West Covina testified that she was driving about 65 mph in the same lane when she noticed Marin’s vehicle 30-35 seconds before slamming into the rear of her vehicle without slowing down and critically injuring her, Algorri said.

Details about Marin’s injuries were not immediately available.

Ganuelas, now 22, blamed Marin for the accident, saying she failed to turn on her emergency flashers, did not pull safely off the road and that she drove a poorly maintained vehicle, according to Algorri.
