Lady Justice 3 16-9

A Duarte man with four DUI convictions was found guilty Tuesday of second-degree murder in a drunken driving crash that killed a 42-year-old woman.

A jury found William Jose Segura, 33, guilty of one count each of second- degree murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury with three priors, leaving the scene of an accident and driving while having a blood-alcohol content higher than .08 percent, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

The jury found true sentence-enhancing allegations of great bodily injury and a blood-alcohol content of .15 percent or higher.

Segura faces at least 15 years to life in prison when he is sentenced Jan. 27 in Alhambra.

The crash took place on Sept. 16, 2011, after Segura went drinking at two different places before rear-ending another vehicle on Huntington Drive in Duarte.

Lisa Marie Mireles, who was driving the vehicle rammed by Segura, was killed when she lost control, went off the road and crashed into a tree, witnesses testified.

Segura had prior DUI convictions in 2004, 2006 and 2010, and he was arrested for a fourth DUI four months prior to the crash that killed Mireles.

He was driving on a suspended license and was in a court-mandated alcohol program at the time of the fatal crash.
