A motorcyclist sustained major injuries when he drove off the southbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Downey and hit a tree, authorities said Tuesday.
The incident occurred at 10:50 p.m. Monday on the Florence Avenue on- ramp, said California Highway Patrol Officer Francisco Villalobos.
The motorcyclist apparently lost control and went down an embankment, striking a tree around the on-ramp, Villalobos said.
The motorcyclist was taken to St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, Villalobos said.
The Florence Avenue on-ramp was closed until midnight for the investigation, according to the CHP.
