A 68-year-old woman getting around with the help of a walker was fatally struck by a vehicle as she crossed a dark street in Torrance outside a crosswalk, police said Tuesday.
The accident occurred at Anza Avenue and Arvada Street at 7:12 p.m. Monday, said Torrance police Sgt. Paul Kranke.
The woman was eastbound crossing Anza Avenue and “not in the crosswalk” when she was struck by the northbound vehicle in the far right lane, Kranke told City News Service. There is a crosswalk at the intersection but she was not using it, he said.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle stopped and assisted authorities responding to the accident, Kranke said, adding that it was dark at the time and it does not appear the driver saw the woman.
“There does not appear to be anything criminal-related,” Kranke said.
