A sheriff’s SWAT team Friday arrested a man who allegedly threatened his family, ending a seven-hour standoff in the Whittier area, authorities said.

The suspect was wounded, possibly by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the upper torso. Paramedics rushed him to an area hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, said Sgt. George Suarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Norwalk Station.

The incident in the 13000 block of Dunton Drive in an unincorporated area just south of Whittier was reported around 8 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Jaime Alvarez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Norwalk Station.

“The husband threatened his family,” he said, adding that the family members were out of the home by the time deputies arrived but the suspect remained inside.

“We started treating it as a barricade,” Alvarez said.

SWAT deputies waited until about 3 a.m. today to enter the home, where they found the man injured inside, Alvarez said.
