A woman was stabbed in the eye Monday and her alleged attacker, a 49-year-old Long Beach man, was arrested minutes later, Long Beach police reported.

The unidentified woman, in her 40s, was taken to a hospital after she was stabbed with a knife about 1:50 a.m. at Pacific Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway. The suspect was arrested 10 minutes later at Wardlow Road and Pacific Avenue, said Marlene Arrona of the Long Beach Police Department.

John Keith Callegari was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon and assault with a deadly weapon. He was being held on $35,000 bail, Arrona said.

The motive for the assault was unknown, but the man and woman were acquainted, she said.
