Two men were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of stealing items from a Sport Chalet at the Westfield Santa Anita mall, where one attacked a loss prevention officer who tried to stop them, police said.
Officers were dispatched to the mall about 12:35 p.m. after loss prevention officers tried to detain two suspects seen loading mostly sports clothing into a backpack, according to Arcadia police.
The loss prevention officers recovered some of the pilfered items before the men fled the store, police said.
“Both suspects ran into the parking lot, where a loss prevention officer was punched and then threatened with pepper spray,” according to a police statement.
The suspects drove off in a black Honda Civic that was located by officers a few minutes later on Colorado Boulevard near Baldwin Avenue, police said.
The driver of the Honda failed to pull over and a short pursuit ensued. It ended when the Honda stopped in the area of Corta Calle and Buff Avenue in Pasadena, where the men were taken into custody, police said.
The driver, 20-year-old Dominique Javon Jones of Pasadena was booked on suspicion of robbery, evading a peace officer and driving without a license. He also had an outstanding warrant for misdemeanor vandalism and was jailed in lieu of $105,000 bail, police said.
The other suspect, 18-year-old Royce Lee Emerson Camp of Pasadena, was booked in suspicion of robbery and was jailed on $50,000 bail, according to police.
Both men were being held at the Arcadia Police Department jail.
