California Highway Patrol officers arrested 219 impaired drivers in Los Angeles County between New Year’s Eve and Sunday morning, up from 104 in the year-ago holiday period.
Statewide, a total of 1,072 CHP drunken driving arrests were made on freeways and in unincorporated areas between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 this morning, compared to 457 in the comparable year-ago holiday period, according to the CHP.
The drunken driving arrest tally reflects only those made by the CHP, not local agencies. And last year’s reporting period was two days shorter than this year’s, a CHP officer said.
