A big rig, a smaller truck and a tour bus collided Wednesday on the eastbound Pomona (60) Freeway in Hacienda Heights, sending a dozen people to hospitals and bringing traffic to a near-halt for miles.

The crash in eastbound lanes near Seventh Avenue occurred about 9:40 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi, who said that only one eastbound lane remained open.

According to county fire Inspector Rick Flores, 12 people were transported for hospital treatment of minor injuries. Twenty-four others were examined for possible minor injuries, and those who required treatment were released at the scene, Flores said.

Following the crash, a triage area was set up to evaluate patients, many of whom were initially described as “walking wounded,” fire Capt. Keith Mora said.
