The victim of a late-December hit-and-run collision blamed on an intoxicated motorist in West Covina has died, authorities said Friday.

Sherry Yu, 31, was the passenger in an Acura Integra that was struck at the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Rowland Avenue around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 30, said West Covina Police Officer Rudy Lopez.

The Acura was turning left from Rowland into Azusa when it was struck by a Honda Civic that ran a red light. Witnesses said the driver of the Honda, 21-year-old Raymond Alvarado of San Bernardino, attempted to run from the scene, Lopez said.

Alvarado was booked on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run and was in custody in lieu of $210,000 bail, Lopez said. He was scheduled to appear in Pomona Superior Court Jan. 28.

Yu died Thursday of her injuries, Lopez said, adding that the Los Angeles county District Attorney’s Office had been notified so that prosecutors could consider additional charges again Alvarado.
