A stolen 1997 Dodge Ram with an allegedly drugged driver behind the wheel slammed into a parked school bus in Palmdale Tuesday, killing a passenger in the truck, a sheriff’s detective said.

Douglas Fiddament, a 20-year-old Pearblossom resident, was driving the Dodge — which was pulling a trailer — when it hit the school bus at a high rate of speed, said Detective Brent Bunch of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.

Fiddament’s passenger, who was not immediately identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:10 a.m. collision on southbound 40th Street East, north of Bella Vita Way, Bunch said.

The bus driver was not injured, according to Buch, who said there were no students on the bus.

Fiddament was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and murder for allegedly causing the death of his passenger while in the commission of a felony, the detective said.
