A man who was struck and killed by a vehicle as he attempted to cross a street in Lancaster in a motorized wheelchair was identified Wednesday as a 72-year-old local resident.
The accident occurred near the intersection of 15th Street West and Avenue J-8 around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, sheriff’s Lt. Margarita Velazquez said.
William M. Bell was crossing the street outside a crosswalk, in front of a senior care facility, when he was struck by the vehicle, which was southbound on 15th Street West, Velazquez said.
The driver was detained at the scene, but was not arrested, Velazquez said.
