A Carson man pleaded not guilty Friday to fatally stabbing his estranged wife’s boyfriend in front of her 4-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter in South Los Angeles.
Guillermo Hector Diaz, 29, is charged with murder in the Dec. 22 death of Robert Villagran.
Diaz also faces one count each of attempted murder, first-degree residential burglary and forcible rape, along with two counts each of resisting an executive officer and dissuading a witness from reporting a crime.
Diaz allegedly entered his estranged wife’s apartment through a window and stabbed her boyfriend several times with a pocketknife in front of her two children.
Diaz, who is also accused of raping his wife during an argument about two months earlier, has been jailed since his Dec. 22 arrest.
He is due back in a Compton courtroom Jan. 27, when a date is scheduled to be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence to require him to stand trial.
If convicted, Diaz faces a potential life prison sentence, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
