Authorities Tuesday identified a 23-year-old man who was fatally shot in the unincorporated Lennox area of Los Angeles County.

The shooting occurred about 9 p.m. Sunday in the 4100 block of West 105th Street, said Deputy Kevin Moody of the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.

Gerardo Gomez, who lived in the Lennox area, died at the scene, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

“According to witnesses, the victim was in the process of moving his car off the street when another car drove up,” Moody said.

Two men believed between 20 and 25 years old confronted the victim “wanting to know if he was a gang member. One of the suspects started struggling with the victim. During the struggle, the second suspect shot the victim,” Moody said.

The suspects took the murder weapon, got into a dark sedan and drove away eastbound on 105th Street, Moody said. No arrests were reported.

Anyone with information on the shooting was urged to call homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made on the Crime Stoppers line at (800) 222-TIPS.
