An alleged gang member pleaded not guilty Monday to a murder charge and other allegations for the shooting of another man following an argument in East Hollywood.
Prosecutors said Eric Carreon Carrillo, 18, and two other gang members were walking near Melrose and Kenmore avenues about 3 a.m. Oct. 2 when they were approached by Aniya Parker and another man. An argument broke out and Carrillo allegedly hit Parker in the face.
When Parker, 47, tried to walk away, someone followed and shot him, according to prosecutors. Parker died at a hospital.
The District Attorney’s Office would not comment on whether Carrillo was the shooter, despite the gun allegation in the criminal complaint.
Bail was set at $2.04 million, and Carrillo is due back in court on March 6, when a date is expected to be set for a preliminary hearing.
If convicted, Carrillo faces a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in prison.
