A 3-year-old boy was shot in the back while he slept in his Palmdale home, but the wound was not believed to be life-threatening, a sheriff’s lieutenant said Monday.
It happened just before 10 p.m. on Sunday at an apartment or motor home in the 38000 block of 65th Street East, according to Lt. Adam Ellison of the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station.
“The boy was sleeping in his bed and one or more bullets penetrated his wall,” Ellison said. “One bullet hit him in the lower back.”
The boy was taken to Antelope Valley Hospital.
“Fortunately the victim, he was wrapped in a heavy blanket. The imact of the bullet only caused a large bruise and small burn on the victim but did not penetrate his body,” he said. “We have no suspect and no motive.”
Gang detectives were notified of the shooting so that they could pursue the possiblity that it was gang-related. “It’s likely but it’s unknown,” Ellison said.
