A 36-year-old man was sentenced Tuesday to 25 years to life in state prison for carjacking a woman and then fatally running over a man outside a Harbor City bar with the minivan he had stolen.
Ignacio Perez pleaded no contest Oct. 31 to one count each of second- degree murder and carjacking.
Prosecutors said Perez carjacked a woman and her two passengers after being kicked out of a bar, breaking the woman’s arm, before driving back to the bar and running over Juan Dominguez, 41, on Oct. 17, 2012. Prosecutors believe Perez had an issue with someone other than Dominguez at the bar.
Dominguez was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died eight days later.
Perez abandoned the carjacked Toyota Sienna near Western Avenue and 256th Street, authorities said. He was seen jumping from roof to roof by people in the area of the 1600 block of 256th Street, and was found hiding under a trailer, according to authorities.
He was arrested early Oct. 18, 2012, and has remained behind bars since then.
