A big rig slammed into a detached U-Haul trailer on the Golden State (5) Freeway in Burbank Wednesday and the crash temporarily shut down several freeway lanes.
The accident in the No. 3 lane of the northbound 5 near Scott Road took place just before 4 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Tony Polizzi.
The impact of the crash spread debris across the freeway, shutting down the northbound Nos. 1 and 2 lanes and the southbound No. 1 lane, Polizzi said.
A SigAlert was declared by the CHP, and the lanes were closed until about 7 a.m. while crews worked to clear the scene. There was no immediate word regarding injuries or on how the U-Haul trailer ended up sitting in the freeway lane.
The crash was under investigation by the CHP, Polizzi said.
