A Sylmar man who fatally stabbed a 19-year-old man at a birthday party was sentenced Wednesday to 16 years to life in state prison.
Judge David Stuart imposed the term on David Gage Silva, 22, who was convicted Dec. 8 of second-degree murder for the Oct. 28, 2012, attack on Anthony Hernandez.
Jurors also found true an allegation that Silva personally used a knife during the crime.
The party was winding down when a fight broke out in the garage at about 1:30 a.m. at the end of a party held in the 13300 block of Sayre Street, according to the prosecution.
Hernandez, who was the friend of an invited guest, was found by police lying on a walkway in front of the house. He was taken to a hospital, where he died a short time later.
Silva was arrested that afternoon by Los Angeles police.
