One person was killed in a predawn apartment fire in Van Nuys Saturday and police said the victim may have been stabbed before the blaze.

Police were seeking a man after the early-morning fire, said Los Angeles Police Officer Rosario Herrera of the Media Relations Section.

The suspect was described as a male black, who was from 20 to 30 years old. She had no description of the person possibly killed during the fire.

Firefighters were dispatched to the burning unit, in the 14000 block of Saticoy Street at 5:06 a.m., said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

“Firefighters made entry one unit and quickly extinguished the flames,” Scott said. ” Sadly, one person was found inside and was determined dead.”

At midmorning, arson unit investigators and homicide detectives were at the two-story structure to investigate the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire and the death.

The fire was near Saticoy Street at Van Nuys Boulevard, north of the Van Nuys Civic Center.
