A 28-year-old man suspected of attacking his girlfriend and then abducting their 3-month-old daughter in Palmdale was taken into custody Saturday by police in Bakersfield.
Ellsworth Jerome Young was located by the Bakersfield Police Department at 2:30 a.m., said a sheriff’s lieutenant at the sheriff’s Palmdale station. The 3-month-old girl was safe and sound.
“He’s being picked up and will be going to the Palmdale sheriff’s station,” she said.
A watch commander with the Bakersfield Police Department could not be reached for comment.
Young, who allegedly punched his girlfriend, giving her a black eye before driving off Friday morning with the infant, had been reported as being between Bakersfield and Delano late Friday, according to Lt. Frank Quichocho of the sheriff’s Palmdale Station.
That report was from around 11 p.m. Friday, Quichocho said, adding, “It looks like he’s going in a northerly direction.”
It all began at 11:40 a.m. Friday when the victim ran into a check cashing business, leaving the child in their car, Sheriff’s Lt. Adam Ellison said.
“The suspect drove away with the child,” Ellison said. “The victim claims the suspect has a black semi-auto pistol, and repeatedly forced her to commit sex acts as recently as yesterday.”
