The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office Saturday identified a woman who was struck and killed by a vehicle in El Segundo.

The woman was identified as Sharon Cheng, 62, of El Segundo, said Coroner’s Lt. David Smith.

Cheng was injured about 9 p.m. Wednesday at Sepulveda Boulevard and Mariposa Avenue and died at a hospital, said El Segundo Police Lt. Dan Kim.

According to the preliminary investigation, Cheng was crossing at the intersection when she was hit by a vehicle that was westbound on Mariposa and turning left onto Sepulveda, Kim said.

That corner is just south of Los Angeles International Airport, and Sepulveda is 10 lanes wide.

The motorist, a 53-year-old El Segundo man, remained at the scene and was interviewed by police, Kim said.

“There were no signs of alcohol intoxication at the time of this collision, and at this time, pending further investigation, no charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle,” Kim said.
