A 54-year-old man apparently killed his parents with prescription drug overdoses or poison of some kind and then committed suicide inside a Koreatown apartment, a top investigator for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said Monday.
Craig Harvey said that “it appears” the son, identified as Hee Tchang Mah, killed his parents and then himself, although an examination of the bodies has not yet begun.
One of the victims was identified as 86-year-old Saeng Mah. A woman, believed to be the mother, is still listed as a Jane Doe, Harvey said.
Harvey said that there was no visible trauma to the bodies and the cause of death may have been an overdose of prescription drugs or poisoning. He said that toxicology tests will be done.
A foul odor from an apartment prompted the manager to check the unit in the 1100 block of Crenshaw Boulevard on Saturday, and the manager.
Paramedics pronounced the family dead and called in police at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
Los Angeles police homicide detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the deaths to call them at (213) 382-9470.
