A Littlerock man arrested last March following an investigation into cockfighting pleaded no contest Wednesday to three misdemeanor counts of possession of a bird for fighting.

Inocencio Rodriguez Aguirre, 47, is facing 40 days of community service and three years probation, along with animal cruelty counseling, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies found about 150 game birds on the man’s property last Feb. 27, according to Deputy District Attorney Daniel Rochmes.

Twenty-eight of the birds were in fighting trim with their combs and wattles cut to prevent injuries during a fight, and their spurs were filed down so blades could be attached, the prosecutor said.
