DUI and license checkpoints will be erected at four places across the city Friday and over the weekend, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The checkpoints will be on Rosecrans Avenue at Menlo Avenue Friday from 7 p.m. to midnight; on Alvarado Street at Seventh Street from 8 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday; on Santa Monica Boulevard at Menlo Avenue from 8 p.m. Friday to 1 a.m. Saturday; and in Reseda on Sherman Way at Yoland Avenue from 8 p.m. Saturday to 1 a.m. Sunday.
The checks are part of a larger campaign meant to sharply reduce the number of DUI-related traffic collisions in Los Angeles, where there have been 7,048 in the past three years, according to LAPD Officer Don Inman. Of those collisions, 60 were fatal, with 2,818 also resulting in injuries, Inman said.
