Torrance Police pursued a suspected DUI motorist Monday morning until he crashed his sedan in an industrial area and fled on foot, police said.
The pursuit began at Del Amo and Hawthorne boulevards around 12:33 a.m., when an officer spotted a vehicle speeding without lights on, said Torrance police Lt. Brian O’Steen.
The officer pursued the car to an industrial area on Normandie Avenue between Torrance and Del Amo boulevards, O’Steen said, adding that the driver crashed into a fence and took off running.
Torrance Police set up a search perimeter but gave up the hunt around 2 a.m. after confirming that the driver was the owner of the abandoned car, O’Steen said.
“We know who he is. We know where he lives,” O’Steen said, adding it’s only a matter of time before the driver is taken into custody.
