A boy was arrested in Pasadena Thursday after struggling with pursuing officers who saw him walking along a street smoking marijuana and found him to be in possession of a loaded stolen handgun, police said.

The patrol officers, driving in the area of 500 West Washington Boulevard about 10:30 a.m., spotted the youth smoking from a glass pipe as he walked on the sidewalk, according to Pasadena police.

“When the officers attempted to detain the male suspect, he ran but was ultimately apprehended after a physical struggle with officers,” according to a police statement.     The boy was found to be in possession of a loaded .22-caliber Derringer- type handgun that had been reported stolen in Sierra Madre, police said.

“The suspect admitted to knowing it was stolen and that he purchased it ‘off the streets,”‘ police said.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen firearm and taken to a juvenile detention facility, according to police, who declined to release the boy’s age.
