A fire damaged an apartment building for senior citizens in Long Beach Friday, and two people were treated at a hospital for apparent minor smoke inhalation.

Fifty firefighters sent to the Seabreeze Senior Apartments, 745 Alamitos Ave., at 11:49 a.m. extinguished the flames in about 15 minutes, said Jake Heflin of the Long Beach Fire Department.

The fire “significantly” damaged a fourth-floor unit, and there also was smoke damage in a hallway, Heflin said.

Two people were taken to a hospital for treatment of apparent minor smoke inhalation, Heflin said. Two others were checked out at the scene but did not require transport.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

A damage estimate was not immediately released.
