A 27-year-old motorist was arrested for felony drunken driving and vehicular manslaughter for a single-vehicle crash that killed a passenger in a back seat, a police corporal said Saturday.
Felipe Lamas-Spino, of Baldwin Park, was speeding in a 2012 Honda sedan westbound in the 2700 block of Hillside Drive when he lost control of the car and allowed it to hit the curb and a tree. It overturned, said West Covina Police Cpl. Rudy Lopez.
Lamas-Spino’s rear seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, and was pronounced dead at the scene, the police corporal said.
A resident in the area called police about 10:45 p.m. Friday to report the crash, Lopez said.
A front seat passenger was not injured in the crash.
Lamas-Spino was booked at the West Covina Police Department jail, where he was held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
