Five people were wounded late Sunday in a drive-by shooting near downtown Long Beach, a police sergeant said.

It happened about 9:40 p.m. in the 200 block of West 14th Street, Long Beach Police Sgt. Brad Johnson said.

Three adults and one juvenile were taken to hospitals in Long Beach, Johnson said. One adult was said to be critical upon arrival, but the patient’s condition later was upgraded to serious, Johnson said.

A fifth victim, a man, was taken privately to a hospital outside Long Beach with non life-threatening injuries, he said.

The shooting was under investigation as a gang-related drive-by shooting, Johnson said.
