A 25-year-old Northridge woman whose car was stopped on the Harbor (110) Freeway in downtown Los Angeles was killed when she crashed into a tree after speeding away when an officer approached her vehicle, authorities said today.
The crash happened just before 7 p.m. Sunday on the transition road from the northbound Harbor (110) Freeway to the northbound Hollywood (101) Freeway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The woman’s 2015 Honda Civic was stopped in the number four lane of the northbound Harbor Freeway at Second Street, the CHP reported.
A CHP officer pulled up behind the Civic and attempted to speak to the woman through the driver’s side window, but the woman sped off.
The officer got back into his vehicle and attempted to catch up to the car, which entered the Harbor Freeway transition road to the northbound Hollywood Freeway, but as the officer entered the connector he saw that the Honda had crashed into a tree on an embankment, according to the CHP.
The officer pulled the woman from the Honda, rendered first aid and called for medical assistance, but the woman died at the scene, according to the CHP.
