Fire ripped through a Rosemead apartment building Tuesday, damaging at least three units, and crews fighting the blaze feared there might be explosive devices inside.

County fire crews responded around 4 p.m. to the building at 4265 Walnut Grove Ave., according to Inspector Rick Flores.

Initial reports indicated there was an explosion in one of the units, Flores said.

Fire officials said some suspicious devices were found inside the building, but none were believed to be pipe bombs, as was initially feared.

Arson detectives were investigating the cause of the blaze.

Other residents were evacuated from the structure while crews battled the blaze. One firefighter suffered minor burn injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
