Two men who failed to return from a hike on Mount Wilson as scheduled were found early Tuesday morning huddled next to a campfire and driven out of the wilderness by search and rescue workers, a sheriff’s sergeant said.
The men, ages 62 and 75, were scheduled to return from their Mount Wilson hike at 6 p.m. Monday and relatives became concerned and contacted authorities, said Sgt. Burton Brink of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Crescenta Valley Station.
Area urban search and rescue teams combed the area and found the men huddled by a campfire in the Valley Forge area about 2 a.m., Brink said. “They seemed to be fine.”
Rescuers drove the men out of the wilderness area and reunited them with worried loved ones, he said.
There has been an increase in lost hikers due to trails scarred by flames and changed by rockslides from the 2009 Station Fire, Brink said.
