A man was in custody Tuesday in the weekend hit-and-run death of a pedestrian in Lancaster, authorities said today.

The pedestrian — identified by the coroner’s office as Gerald Smith, 42, of Quartz Hill — was struck about 9:15 p.m. Saturday near 35th Street West and Avenue L and died at a hospital, according to the sheriff’s department.

Servando Barrios, 56, of Palmdale surrendered at the sheriff’s Lancaster Station on Sunday and was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, said sheriff’s Detective Michael Politano.

Barrios was being held on $50,000 bail, and was scheduled to appear in the Antelope Valley courthouse on Wednesday, the sheriff’s department reported.
