A fight in a bar in the Echo Park section of Los Angeles Thursday morning ended with one man suffering stab wounds and two men in custody, a police sergeant said.

The violence at the Gold Room at 1558 W. Sunset Blvd. was reported to police shortly after 1 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Melvin Gamble of Rampart Division.

“Someone flagged down a traffic unit, gave them the information about the fight and stabbing which was relayed to our officers,” Gamble said. “When our officers arrived at the scene they saw one of the suspects running away from the bar and he was stopped and arrested,” he added. “The other suspect was also arrested outside the bar.”

The victim was stabbed in the torso and transported to a hospital, Gamble said. His wounds were not life-threatening.

The two suspects, who witnesses said were “the aggressors,” were arrested, Gamble said, adding, one of them suffered an injury possibly inflicted by the victim defending himself.

A news photographer reported from the scene that the suspects also stole the victim’s jacket, but Gamble said he could not immediately confirm that a robbery had taken place.

Gamble said he didn’t yet know what triggered the fight. An investigation was underway.
