A 50-year-old teacher has been arrested in Sierra Madre for allegedly having a sexual encounter with a minor who is a high school student in Azusa, police said Friday.

Eddee Kovacs Kolos of Sierra Madre turned herself in Thursday afternoon and was arrested after being interviewed by detectives, according to Sierra Madre police.

Kolos is a teacher in the East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupational Program and the minor a student at Gladstone High School, police said.

“While this teacher was not a direct employee of the Azusa Unified School District, the district holds this individual to the same high standards to which they hold their own teachers,” according to a police statement.

District staff found out about the alleged encounter Thursday afternoon and contacted Child Protective Services, the occupational program’s director of personnel and local law enforcement and Kolos was immediately removed from the campus and placed on leave, police said.

It was determined the encounter took place in Sierra Madre and the city’s police department was notified and launched an investigation, officials said.

After her arrest, Kolos was taken to the Pasadena Jail, “where she was booked for having sexual intercourse with a minor,” according to police.

Kolos posted $20,000 bond on Thursday night and remains free, according to sheriff’s online jail records.

She is due in court in Pasadena on April 3, police said.

“The cooperation of the Azusa Unified School District, the Covina Police Department and the quick work of Sierra Madre Police Department detectives were instrumental in bringing this case to a quick conclusion and the arrest of the suspect within four hours of school authorities being notified,” Sierra Madre Police Department Public Safety Director Chief Larry Giannone said.
