Authorities Friday identified a man who died after he set himself on fire in the restroom of a Starbucks in Van Nuys.
Firefighters sent to the coffee shop at 15355 W. Sherman Way at 8:18 a.m. Tuesday took the man to a hospital for treatment of burns that covered about 90 percent of his body, and he died the following night, said Erik Scott of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
He was identified as Brian Glanz, 57, of Van Nuys, and his death was classified as a suicide, said L.A. Coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter.
According to Scott, shortly after Glanz entered the restroom, “bystanders heard an explosive sound in the area, and the patient staggered from the bathroom engulfed in flames, and collapsed near the front entrance.”
“Patrons assisted in extinguishing the flames,” Scott said.
