A 23-year-old man has been arrested in Altadena on suspicion of stabbing his 77-year-old grandmother and striking her over the head with an ax handle, sending her to a hospital where she was listed in serious condition, the L.A. Sheriff’s Department said Saturday.
A call was made to 911 at 7:45 p.m. Friday to say the blood-covered victim was at her neighbor’s front porch in the 1700 block of North Allen Avenue, said Lt. Cruz Solis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Altadena Station.
Deputies determined she had been assaulted with a blunt object, possibly an ax handle, and stabbed multiple times, he said.
A grandson of the woman was taken into custody without incident Friday night and booked on suspicion of attempted murder, Solis said.
He was identified as Alex Touloudjian. The victim was identified as Juliet Touloudjian.
Although the investigation continued into the attack, “it appeared it was a heated argument that turned violent,” Solis said.
Juliet Touloudjian was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for emergency surgery where she was expected to survive, Solis said.
