A pedestrian died Monday after being struck by a big rig on a freeway transition road in Boyle Heights, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The accident occurred about 4:35 a.m. on the transition from the northbound Santa Ana (5) Freeway to the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway in Boyle Heights, said CHP Officer Tony Polizzi.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 21-year-old man was running across the traffic lanes when he was hit by the big rig, the CHP reported.
Assistant Coroner Chief Ed Winter identified him as Jefferson Giovanni Turcios of Los Angeles.
The driver remained at the scene and was not arrested.
Both transition lanes were shut down initially, but the left lane was reopened at 5:20 a.m., Polizzi said. The second lane was reopened about 7 a.m.
