A 28-year-old Sylmar man accused of stabbing his mother to death with a butcher knife was ordered Monday to stand trial on a murder charge.
Freddie Sanchez is charged with killing 58-year-old Matilde Sanchez, who was found dead March 25 of multiple stab wounds in the living room of the family’s home in the 13900 block of Herron Street.
Police who responded to a 911 call recovered the apparent murder weapon – – a butcher knife — at the scene.
The suspect’s uncle was at the residence at the time of the stabbing, along with another man, and implicated his nephew in the crime, according to police.
Sanchez remains jailed on $1.02 million bail. He is due back in court for arraignment on March 9.
If convicted as charged, he faces 16 years to life in state prison.
