A 38-year-old man charged in the stabbing death of a clerk at a South Los Angeles doughnut shop was ordered Thursday to remain jailed without bail.

Travell Deshan Mossett was charged Wednesday with capital murder in the Jan. 13 killing of 29-year-old Andy Ung.

The murder count includes the special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery, along with an allegation that Mossett used an edged weapon.

Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Mossett, who is set to be arraigned March 19 in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Mossett allegedly jumped over a counter and took money from the cash register after placing an order at the shop, which sold fried chicken as well as doughnuts. Mossett fatally stabbed Ung in a parking lot after he gave chase, prosecutors allege.

Candles and flowers were placed outside the business after Ung’s killing, and dozens of people took part last month in a march through South Los Angeles in his memory.
