Lady Justice 3 16-9

A 25-year-old man who allegedly ran over his girlfriend’s 67-year-old mother in Hawthorne after she tried to intervene in an argument between the couple remains jailed Tuesday on $170,000 bail while awaiting his next court hearing on three felony charges.

Amir Ali Rasheed Bass pleaded not guilty Monday to one count each of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run driving resulting in death and driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage causing injury.

Bass is charged in the death of Martina Olivacce, who tried to intervene in an argument last Thursday between her daughter and Bass as he sat inside his vehicle on Doty Avenue, according to the District Attorney’s Office.

Bass allegedly backed up his car, hitting Olivacce and pinning her under a tire before fleeing the scene. He was arrested Thursday night by Hawthorne police.

Bass, who is due back at the Airport Branch Courthouse on March 16, faces up to 10 years in state prison if convicted of the three charges.
