An off-duty sheriff’s deputy, who was riding home on his own motorcycle, was hospitalized Tuesday following a collision with a vehicle at a Norwalk intersection.

“He’s conscious, breathing, has facial lacerations and back pain. We’re still waiting for additional information regarding his status,” Lt. Eric Smithson of the sheriff’s Norwalk station said early tonight.

It was not immediately clear if the motorist was injured in the crash, which occurred about 4:25 p.m. at Pioneer Boulevard and Rosecrans Avenue.

The deputy, whose name was withheld, was taken to an area hospital, Smithson said.
