Three men saved a woman from an attempted sexual assault in Alhambra, authorities said Wednesday.
The men came from a nearby restaurant to intervene after the woman was attacked in an alley near West Valley Boulevard and South Ethel Avenue around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Alhambra police Lt. Garrett Kennedy, who said the men held the suspect at the scene.
Rudy Gallegos, 34, of Los Angeles, was jailed in lieu of $1 million bail on suspicion of attempted rape, kidnapping with intent to rape and assault with intent to rape, Kennedy said.
Sgt. Jerry Johnson said the woman “was emotionally shook up but physically had only a small bruise on one of her hands.”
“She did not have to go to the hospital,” Johnson said.
Police said the suspect approached the woman and asked her the time.
“She ignored him and continued to walk,” according to police. “He persisted in asking questions, and then he grabbed her, forced her to the ground and began pulling at her skirt and clothing. She fought and screamed, which is when the men came to her rescue. All three held him down until police arrived.”
